Near fall points in college just recently changed - or did they?

I thought up until the last couple of years, a near fall was limited to 2 points or 3 points, just as you said it was back in the day (and that's how it was when I wrestled HS back in early 80's). I attended several VT matches and the ACC tournament in 2014 and I don't remember seeing higher points awarded. But this year I saw it a lot.
